A Letter to my vulva

If you would write a letter to your vulva, what would you write?

Teater Vølven is currently working on the project ‘A letter to my Vulva’. This project has two linked, but separate parts: A workshop and a performance. The workshop serves as the research-facility for, and foundation of the performance, and through the workshop many stories of the vulva from different age-groups and cultures have been gathered. The workshop also holds great value in itself, since the participants – no matter if they choose to share their letters with Teater Vølven or not – get the opportunity to come to great new insights about themselves, and to be, for a moment, in a safe environment where they freely and openly can share their experiences with other, like-minded fellow participants.

The performance is primarily based on the content of the donated letters, meanwhile the initiating spark for the project was the personal experience of the members of Teater Vølven, and a growing feeling that even in today’s society there continues to be a need for sharing and processing gender-related stories. By collecting many different stories through the workshop, Teater Vølven has been able to process repeated patterns and individual differences in a way that will make the performance resonate with many different types of audience. Without being too serious about it at all times, Teater Vølven manages to share the many personal stories in a way that creates universal value and importance.

The aim is to continue to hold workshops at different venues, so that more people can connect and get a chance to open up and learn more about themselves and others, as well as share the performance with as many audience in the Nordic region, and around the globe as possible.
